Making a conscious decision each day to protect what you love is a very powerful act. Too many people wake up leaving their daily experiences up to chance. We make split seconds decisions and react to the uncontrollable.
Instead, we need to predetermine who we are going to be, what we are willing or not willing to do. We need to be proactive instead of reactive — deciding our mindset and actions prior to any external influences.
“I will be creative and work towards a solution instead of focusing my energy on the problem”
Bad Things Will Happen (if that’s how you see them)
Yes, bad things will happen each day. we need to realize this and decide beforehand how we will react. Say to ourselves as soon as we open our eyes in the morning “I will be creative and work towards a solution instead of focusing my energy on the problem”. Or, “I will not let a negative experience or person impact how I think and act”.
100 MPH Slap Shot
Take a 100 MPH slap shot for example. There are players in the NHL who voluntarily put their body in front of Shea Weber’s 102.8 MPH shot. This is a terrifying act. This is not a natural reaction. A natural reaction would be to dive out of the way or strategically pull one foot off the ground (flamingo) at the last second.

Instead, these players must override their mind and tell themselves that “I will block that shot“. They see it in their mind before it happens. They act out the outcome they want to happen. Repeating to themselves “I am not willing to let that puck go past me and into my net”.
Hitting the Snooze
We need to have that same self-awareness on a daily basis in order to reach our goals. We can’t hit the snooze on our alarm and give up 30 minutes of our day then not eat a healthy breakfast. Then rush out the door and stop for fast food on the way to school or workout or not eat at all.
Once you truly know in your heart what your ultimate goal is you then need to work backward. Be honest with yourself with what are willing to do and hold yourself accountable. Write down the steps and daily actions needed to reach your goal. This will stop you from being the person that complains all the time because they are not getting what they want. You will be able to take an honest look at your daily habits and actions and decide if they are propelling you towards your goal. If they don’t line up, then its time to look in the mirror because at the end of the day you have the gift to decide what matters most and what you are willing to do to get there.
